DBH Designs

The Background

Diana is the owner of DBH Designs, specializing in soft home furnishings and upholstery. Think couches, chairs, drapes, throw pillows, etc. She’s a Southern Lancaster Chamber member, so I’d seen her at several events, but we hadn’t connected yet one-on-one.

Fast forward a bit, Diana reached out to me for a website refresh. She built it herself a few years ago, on Squarespace, with a template. Like a lot of solopreneurs, she didn’t have the time to update the site.

Prior to discovery calls, I look at the business’ existing online presence: their website, social media, Google Business Profile, etc.

I noticed her website only had one photo of her, and aside from her portfolio, each image was a stock photo. I suggested we start with a branding session, and she happily agreed! View some of the photos here!

In addition, I provided a proposal to refresh her social media & Google Business Profile.

We made a plan to start with photos and went from there!

TLDR

I revamped the existing DBH Designs website (fresh branding photos, added pops of color, updated portfolio & layout, etc.) and expanded upon the existing Facebook, Instagram, and Google Business Profile.

Website Before & After

Social Media

Diana’s profile photo was of her work, on both her Facebook and Instagram. I swapped that out with her brand new headshot!

I also worked with Diana to create Instagram Story Highlights. If you’re not familiar, they’re the little bubbles that live on your Instagram profile. Stories normally expire after 24 hours, but by adding them to a highlight, they can be viewed forever!

Personal accounts will often make highlights for their partner, pet, baby, job, etc.

For a business, you can use highlights as a “mini website” of sorts. For Diana, I wanted to include a what to expect series, about section, and portfolio of her work (broken down into categories of drapes, upholstery, etc.).

I also updated her bios and Facebook cover photo!

Website Overview

Diana and I went over what changes she’d like to see and what I recommended. Here are a few of them:

  • Remove old service offerings
  • Remove email list sign up
  • Update headshot
  • Sprinkle branding photos throughout site
  • Update portfolio with fresh images
  • Break up the pages a bit more (as opposed to a wall of text)
  • Add what to expect info for each offering (for example, custom drapes!)
  • Make location obvious (this is crucial for location-based businesses!)

Google Business Profile

Diana already had a Google Business Profile (GBP), so I worked on filling that out! The best thing you can do for a GBP is use all its features!

I added in some branding photos and portfolio photos. I also re-linked her website so that it would go to the home page, vs the existing link that went to the contact page.

Lastly, I created an email template for Diana to request reviews from customers!
